Yemen and Malaysia
Two MOUs on education Iinked between Malaysia and Yemen *
Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Mohd Khaled Nordin signed two MOUs with his Yemeni counterpart, H.E. Dr. Saleh Ali Basurrah during his official visit to Sana’a on 1st June 2009. YB Minister of Higher Education Malaysia was on one-day official visit to the Republic of Yemen and he was accompanied by 21 senior ministry officials and Vice-Chancellor of three Malaysian universities.
The two MOUs signed were as follows:
- MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF YEMEN ON CO-OPERATION IN THE FIELD OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ;
- MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF MALAYSIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF YEMEN ON CO-OPERATION IN THE FIELD OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING
The signing of the two MoUs was done at a ceremony after the conclusion of
bilateral meeting between the two delegations. During the meeting, both
delegations discussed and identified several areas of cooperation in higher
education and vocational training sectors between the two countries. YB Minister
of Higher Education hoped that the Malaysia-Yemen Joint Working Group on
Education would make follow up actions to implement the identified area
cooperation of the two MoUs.
2nd Malaysia-Yemen Joint Working Group Meeting (JWG) on Education
The 2nd Malaysia-Yemen JWG meeting on Education was held in Sana’a on 3 Mei 2009. The Secretary General of Ministry of Higher Education, Datuk Dr. Zulkefli Hassan led the Malaysian delegation while the Vice Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, H.E. Mohamed Mohamed Mottahar was heading the Yemeni delegation. The first JWG was held in Malaysia in 2005.
During the meeting both delegations discussed among other things, issues on how to improve further the close cooperation in education area as well as exchanges of information on quality of education of both countries. Both sides also discussed on the draft of two MOUs on cooperation in the area of higher education as well as technical and vocational education respectively. The two MOUs are expected to be signed by YB Datuk Seri Mohd Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education during his official visit to Yemen scheduled in early June.
